Vidéographie / Filmmaking

Make it stand out

The documentary "Looking Back for a Better Future" is a 30-minute film that chronicles an intergenerational project run by the Blue Metropolis Literary Foundation in Quebec, Canada. It is a short film shot, edited, directed and partially funded by Alaric Boyle-Poirier, on commission from Blue Metropolis.

The project paired teenagers from English-speaking communities in Quebec with elders from their own communities for intergenerational dialogue. The goal was to promote the transmission of cultural knowledge and focus on the theme of resilience, with the intention of fostering intergenerational links and combating early school leaving and language prejudice.
A prominent example from the project involves students from a high school being paired with Holocaust survivors who meet at a group called Café Europa, sharing their painful histories, stories of survival, and life advice with the young people.
The documentary was produced by filmmaker Alaric Boyle-Poirier and was screened at the Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival.
